Now that spring has finally sprung, there’s hardly a shortage of fun things to do in Atlanta, with its variety of museums, landmarks, and sense of adventure. Brickmont Assisted Living is proud to provide exceptional senior living to individuals and families in Atlanta, and we believe there’s no place quite like the “Peach State” to kick off the spring season and enjoy the warmer weather!
Here are our top five spring activities for seniors and families in Georgia:
1. Atlanta Botanical Garden
Since opening its doors in 1976, the Atlanta Botanical Garden has become the “emerald jewel in the crown of Atlanta culture.” As it’s amicably known, The Garden is an urban oasis where people in the city can escape to immerse themselves in over 30 acres of beautiful outdoor gardens, the striking Skyline Garden, and a unique Canopy Walk that links the gardens to 15 additional acres of woodlands.
The Garden offers plenty of special events and interactive exhibits, offering educational adventures for anyone. From Tai Chi classes to family-friendly programs designed to include all ages, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
2. Take A stroll along the atlanta beltline
The BeltLine is one of Atlanta’s most unique attractions. Spanning over 22 miles, this multipurpose course includes walking paths, access to restaurants and bars, art installations, and so much more! The primary mission behind the BeltLine’s construction is to bring the community of Atlanta together through mobility and sustainability, connecting different parts of the city through one common path.
The BeltLine offers walking and bicycle tours to further spread its mission of community connection, and they even feature free fitness classes for all ages and fitness levels. However, if exercise isn’t your thing, explore the artwork spread throughout the BeltLine!
3. Enjoy georgia's Beautiful Coast
Many people don’t realize that when it comes to a beach or coastal getaway, Georgia is home to some of the best-kept secrets! In fact, Georgia’s southernmost shoreline is nicknamed the “Golden Isles,” reflecting the image of a beautiful sunset casting a golden glow over the beautiful dunes and marsh grasses.
Another fun thing to do in Atlanta is spend a day at Tybee Island, enjoy a stroll through the historic Tybee Island Lighthouse, and take in the small-town feel. St. Simons is a perfect option for those who want a more upscale feel to their beach day; spend time at a spa, enjoy some boutique shopping, and indulge in a dinner at one of their many restaurants.
4. Cheer on atlanta united
While college football and baseball might reign supreme in our state, one of the most exciting tickets in town is to watch Atlanta United FC, Georgia’s own Major League Soccer team! Atlanta United quickly became a pillar of the community after its foundation in 2014. Shortly after beginning play as an MLS expansion team, Atlanta United won the 2018 MLS Cup – the earliest an expansion team has ever won the title since 1998!
Home matches are played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Downtown Atlanta. They have been called “The Best Experience in U.S. Soccer” thanks to the enthusiasm of the fans, the close-knit community, and a sense of unity that can only be found in Atlanta!
5. Pick your own strawberries
It’s not quite peach season yet, but just because it’s too early for Georgia’s most famous fruit doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a trip to an orchard! Southern Belle Farms is located in McDonough, Georgia, less than 45 minutes from Atlanta. Their strawberries are at their ripest in April and are hailed as some of the sweetest strawberries in the south!
Gather the whole family and enjoy picking fresh strawberries right off the vine, or grab a pre-picked bucket from their Country Market, which offers unique and locally grown produce, gifts and souvenirs, and fresh bakery goods. The farm has plenty of activities for all ages, including go-carts, barnyard animals, and even “Gem Mining,” making this the perfect destination for a family field trip.
