For most of the year, the average temperature is in the mid-80s, which makes Georgia one of the most beautiful environments in the south!

But when the temperature drops and peach season is over, it can only mean one thing: winter is here. Thankfully, there’s a wide variety of activities and picturesque locations to visit when you spend winter in Georgia!

Brickmont Assisted Living is proud to offer multiple assisted living communities in Georgia. We know when you or a loved one make the decision to move in with us, you’ll love where you live – not just in our community, but in our beautiful state!

From skiing adventures in the gorgeous mountains to a fun stroll through the unique, artsy neighborhoods of Atlanta, here are four ways to spend your winter in “The Peach State!”

1. Play in the Snow

The words “snow” and “Georgia” might not seem like they should be used in the same sentence, but we can assure you that even in the south, we still get plenty of wintry weather.

Make the most of snowy days by planning a trip to the License to Chill Snow Island at Margaritaville, located at Lanier Islands! Snow Island offers snow tubing, an ice rink, and plenty of s’mores and hot cocoa to keep you warm from November to February.

2. Visit Incredible Museums

When the temperature drops, it can be difficult to enjoy many of Georgia’s famous attractions. Still, there are plenty of amazing museums, aquariums, and other indoor attractions to cure your cabin fever.

If you visit Atlanta, check out the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the United States (with over 10 million gallons of water). Reserve tickets to visit the shark gallery, experience an amazing dolphin presentation, or say hello to the penguins in their special exhibit (they certainly know a thing or two about cold weather).

The High Museum is also a must-see in Atlanta, with a permanent collection of over 17,000 works of art. From historical to contemporary artwork, the High is a rich cultural destination guaranteed to inspire and amaze any visitor.

3. Read a Book by One of Georgia's Best-Known Authors

There’s nothing better than curling up with a hot drink and a good book when it’s winter in Georgia. What better way to dive into a great story than choosing a novel written by one of Georgia’s own? Georgia is home to many great authors, but here are some of our favorites:

  • The Color Purple by Alice Walker
  • The Complete Stories of Flannery O’Connor by Flannery O’Connor
  • Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt (Ok, Berendt might not be a Georgia native, but this novel is a thrilling read based on a true story in Savannah!)

If you’re looking for a literary destination, visit the Margaret Mitchell house in Atlanta. Mitchell was the author of Gone With the Wind, a Pulitzer-prize-winning novel and American classic. She also wrote the novel while living in the historic home, which is now a tourable museum.

4. Celebrate the Holidays

The holidays are one of the many things that make winter in Georgia such a magical season, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate! From November to January, the Atlanta Botanical Garden hosts “Garden Lights, Holiday Nights,” a stunning display of over two million holiday lights tucked in the beautiful landscape of the garden grounds.

Stone Mountain Park is also the host of a beautiful Christmas-themed destination, complete with snow tubing, a holiday-singalong train ride, and visits from everyone’s favorite holiday characters, like Rudolph and the man of the hour himself - Santa Claus!

Brickmont Assisted Living is proud to call Georgia our home, and we know that when you choose assisted living in Georgia, you’ll love being able to explore the surrounding areas of our beautiful state. From classic novels to Christmas lights, there’s no shortage of special memories to be made during the winter months in Georgia.
