Transportation is an important topic to think about, especially as you climb in age. While you may have joined a retirement community, you still have places you need to go and things you want to do. Adventure is out there, and even if you might not be able to drive yourself, you can still travel and visit new places.
There’s nothing worse than wanting to travel and not knowing your options, which is why Brickmont Assisted Living is sharing some senior transportation options available!
Paratransit Services
These services are much like public transportation, except they are more tailored to your needs. Senior transportation is not always as expensive as one would assume. Paratransit options are relatively cheap and typically only cost a few dollars. If the city you live in provides public transportation, they also provide paratransit services.
However, paratransit services are only curb-to-curb transport; meaning once you’re out of the bus, they can not help you get inside of your destination. If you require more help than that, don’t fret, senior transportation still has a few options for you!
Volunteer Driving Services
If you require a little more assistance, this may be a better option for you. Volunteer driving services have a driver who uses their personal vehicle to transport you. These services largely depend on where you live, so it is best if you research what is offered in your area.
Volunteer driving services are more of a door-to-door service with the driver understanding your needs and preparing for them. This service typically only costs a few dollars, but it does require you to plan, giving the driver a few days notice before your trip. The National Center for Mobility has a great list of volunteer driving options in your state. While the program is small, it is growing every year with generous volunteers signing up!
Private Driving Services
Private driving services are growing wildly in popularity. While certain rideshare apps may seem tailored towards the youth, they are also increasing in popularity among seniors. Senior transportation is a large industry, and some seniors are looking to rideshare apps to alleviate some of their transportation woes.
Rideshare apps provide curb-to-curb service, and you can schedule them to take you anywhere within an hours notice. While these services are a bit more expensive than the options above and require a smartphone, they provide you with transportation almost immediately.
Retirement communities also provide a certain amount of senior transportation, too. Brickmont Assisted Living provides transport for our residents to doctor appointments or community outings! The best part is that these services are included in your amenities with us, so you don’t have to worry about any extra cost.
Joining a retirement community doesn’t mean an end to your adventures! Brickmont Assisted Living provides plenty of amenities at a great price that will make you feel right at home. We invite you to visit our community and see for yourself!
